Postnatal Check-Ups

After birth, most of the attention shifts to the baby, but your health and recovery are just as important. A postnatal check-up is your chance to pause, assess how your body is healing, and talk through any physical or emotional changes you may be experiencing. 

At Dr Lakey & Associates, we offer postnatal check-ups in a calm and respectful setting. These visits offer support, reassurance, and practical guidance as you adjust to life after delivery. Your GP in Parklands is here to walk with you during this important stage. 

A postnatal check-up is a medical appointment that takes place after your baby is born, usually around 6 weeks postpartum. This visit focuses on your recovery, not the baby’s. It gives Dr Lakey, your general practitioner in Parklands, a chance to check how you are healing and provide support where it is needed. 

Each visit is tailored to how you are feeling and what you need. Common topics and checks include:

• Monitoring physical recovery from childbirth.
• Reviewing any pain, bleeding, or unusual symptoms.
• Healing after a caesarean section or vaginal delivery.
• Support for breastfeeding or feeding choices.
• Emotional well-being and mental health screening.
• Advice on sleeping, adjusting, and support options.
• Discussion around future health planning.

This is also a space to ask questions and raise concerns, no matter how small they seem. 

Most mothers are encouraged to book a postnatal check-up at around six weeks postpartum. However, if you feel unwell, have any concerns, or need support sooner, you do not need to wait. You can make an appointment at any time.

If this is your first check-up after birth, bring along:

• Your delivery information (hospital card or summary).
• A list of any current medications.
• Any questions or concerns you would like to discuss.
